Transgender

Created in collaboration with German journalist Christina Franzisket, this documentary project explores the lives of transgender communities in South India, focusing on identity, discrimination, survival and human rights.

The work follows transgender women whose lives are shaped by social exclusion, limited opportunities and, for many, the realities of sex work. Alongside these personal stories, the project documents the annual Koovagam Festival in Tamil Nadu, where thousands of transgender people gather to celebrate identity, spirituality and community.

Through intimate portraits and in-depth reporting, Beyond the Binary offers a nuanced perspective on resilience, belonging and the ongoing struggle for equality and dignity.
